Visit to Sizewell C demonstrates national significance of Suffolk and connecting the East

On 27 March 2025, Transport East’s Board and partner visited the Sizewell C construction site in Suffolk, a nationally significant infrastructure project set to deliver 7% of the UK’s electricity once operational.
But like any large infrastructure project there are transport implications that require management. Our partners at Suffolk County Council have been working hard to ensure the impacts of Sizewell C construction is managed and maximise the long-term benefits from any new transport infrastructure.
To start the day, attendees had the opportunity to travel to the site in a hydrogen-powered bus and learn more about this innovative alternative fuel, alongside hearing about Transport East’s work to understand the benefits it could provide in delivering sustainable travel.
During the visit, attendees gained insight into the progress of the construction, the project’s ambitious goals, and the crucial role transport will play in supporting the development. This includes the movement of people and goods to ensure the efficient construction of Sizewell C, as well as the long-term connectivity benefits the project will bring to Suffolk.
Following the site tour, the Transport East Board held its scheduled meeting, reflecting on recent achievements – including the Interchange Conference and spending review submission, and looking ahead to the new financial year.
