Transport East joins new board to shape future of transport innovation
Congratulations to our Regional Rural Mobility Manager, Sharon Payne, on being selected as an advisor on the Transport Research and Innovation Grants (TRIG) programme! This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of transport through innovation and collaboration.
Sharon joins the newly established TRIG Advisory Board, which will provide strategic guidance, sector insights, and industry expertise to help steer the programme’s future direction. Appointed on a voluntary basis, board members come from across industry, academia, local government, transport user groups, and previous TRIG participants.
The TRIG programme, delivered by the Department for Transport and Connected Places Catapult, supports early-stage projects that aim to create a more inclusive, sustainable and connected transport system across the UK. It offers up to £45,000 in funding, collaborative opportunities with DfT policy teams, monthly business support, and access to a vibrant alumni network.

“I’m delighted to have been selected for the TRIG Advisory Board and would like to thank Connected Places Catapult for this exciting opportunity. Since 2014, the programme has supported 434 projects with over £15.6 million in grant funding.
“Transport East leads the nation’s Rural Mobility Centre of Excellence, and our evidence shows that people living in rural areas often face limited options when accessing everyday services. I will ensure these factors are part of the conversation when working with the board members to highlight potential future innovations for rural places. It’s vital these voices are heard, and I’m excited to see the next generation of innovations come through which support these communities.”
