£135m of long-term funding confirmed to improve the East’s local transport
Transport East welcomes the announcement that the East will receive just under £135 million through the Local Transport Grant capital allocations between 2026 and 2030.
The Government grant is broken down as:

This funding helps our Local Transport Authority partners deliver vital transport improvements across the region’s communities. From maintaining and enhancing existing infrastructure to delivering projects that improve accessibility, public transport, and support safer streets for people walking and cycling, this funding will support resilient and sustainable transport networks across the region.
Transport East and our partners have continually called on Government to provide Local Authorities with increased long-term, stable funding for transport. We are pleased to see the Local Transport Grant funding being delivered as a multi-year funding settlement. This helps local authorities plan and deliver transport changes more effectively and that is better value for money.
As the region’s Sub-national Transport Body, we’ll continue to provide partners with insight, evidence, and coordination across borders to support the development of locally led schemes. We look forward to seeing how this funding improves connections, enables economic growth and contributes to net zero goals.
