Andrew Summers responds to the Government’s long-term Infrastructure Strategy
Andrew Summers, Chief Executive of Transport East, responded to the publication of the Government’s long-term Infrastructure Strategy:
“We welcome today’s publication of the Government’s UK Infrastructure: A 10-Year Strategy and its ambition to bring greater long-term clarity and stability to national infrastructure planning and delivery. Transport East and our local authority partners have long called for multi-year funding allocations to support integrated, multi-modal schemes, and today’s announcement offers reassurance that these calls are being heard.
“The commitment to publish a detailed infrastructure pipeline in July is particularly welcome – especially as it was a key ask in our Spending Review submission. Greater certainty on planned transport investment is essential to help local partners, communities and the private sector plan with confidence. We hope the forthcoming pipeline supports the East’s ambitions for sustainable growth, improved connectivity, and greater climate resilience, supporting our role in feeding, powering and supplying the UK.
“As decisions on transport investment are made, we will continue to champion the East’s priority infrastructure projects – ensuring their benefits to both the region and the wider UK are clearly understood by Government, and that they align with our Transport Strategy.
“We also look forward to working closely with NISTA. Its role in coordinating infrastructure planning and delivery is vital, and we stand ready to inform and influence its work to ensure future transport investment reflects the East’s needs and potential – supporting improved journeys for local people, unlocking new homes, and driving economic growth and productivity.”
