Response to Government’s Local Government Reorganisation announcement for the East
Our Chair, Will Quince, has responded to today’s Local Government Reorganisation announcement from the Government for Norfolk, Suffolk and Greater Essex:
“We welcome clarity from the Government on the next steps for Local Government Reorganisation and how these changes will shape the future of the East. As these plans move forward in Norfolk, Suffolk and Greater Essex, it is important that the transition provides stability, continuity, and a strong foundation for future growth.
“Transport East remains committed to a partnership approach to unlocking the East’s full potential for communities and businesses. We stand ready to support the transition to the new unitary authorities and to work with the new administrations as they from to ensure transport remains at the heart of future plans for economic growth, connectivity, and sustainability.
“Over the last 5 years, our partnership with local authorities has provided the East with a strong, united voice on the transport policies, interventions, and schemes needed to help the region thrive – maintaining this collective voice as things change will be vital.
“The East is a diverse and growing region, with nationally significant strengths in energy and food production and is a gateway to the world through its ports and airports. Ensuring that transport priorities continue to be aligned across new structures will be critical to delivering long-term growth and supporting communities across urban, coastal, and rural areas.
We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with our local authorities to make life in the East better for all.”
