Local Authorities from the East meet National Highways to discuss Strategic Road Network priorities
Transport East and local authority partners met Nick Harris, CEO of National Highways, to discuss key issues relating to the planning and delivery of improvements across the strategic road network in the East. This was the latest in a series of six-monthly meetings with Nick, convened by Transport East.
Partners welcomed the progress on key schemes along the A47 and the M25/A12 junction, but called for closer collaboration to manage the knock-on disruption caused by the works.
The meeting also highlighted ongoing disappointment over the cancellation of the planned A12 widening in Essex. Members acknowledged, however, that the National Highways team is working with Essex County Council to explore potential alternative, targeted improvements at key junctions along the route.
The region expressed a desire to ensure National Highways’ plans for road improvements take full account major infrastructure projects and housing growth, including Sizewell C, other energy developments, and expansion at ports and airports. We will continue to work closely with National Highways to embed our knowledge and progress our regional priorities.
