Meeting with the Mayor of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority
Our Chair Will Quince, and CEO Andrew Summers recently met Paul Bristow, Mayor of the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), to learn more about CPCA’s ambitious Local Growth Plan and strengthen how our two organisations can work together to unlock opportunities to better connect Cambridgeshire & Peterborough with Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
They discussed the importance of delivering improved East-West connections, and the Mayor’s clear support for continued collaboration to improve journeys across the wider region. This includes:
– East West Rail, delivering benefits beyond Cambridge and into Norfolk, Suffolk and north Essex
– Working with London Stansted Airport to support its planned growth
– Ensuring rural communities are better connected to growing urban centres
– Opportunities for improving transport to border communities like Haverhill and Newmarket
They also discussed the Ely Area Capacity Enhancement and Haughley Rail Upgrades. Transport East and CPCA share a strong understanding of the national significance of these rail schemes for both passengers and freight, and the economic opportunities they can unlock across the East of England and beyond.
Together, we’re committed to continuing to work with partners including Local Government East, England’s Economic Heartland and Chambers East to keep this project high on the Government’s agenda, and we look forward to continuing to work together to deliver better connectivity and sustainable growth for our region.
