East West Rail: Eastern Section Board supports commitments to progress a new eastern Cambridge station and extending dual-tracking toward Newmarket

“The East West Rail Eastern Section Board welcomes the publication of East West Rail’s ‘You Said, We Did’ responding to the 2024 non-statutory consultation. They have clearly considered the views expressed and responded. We particularly welcome the commitments to progressing a station in eastern Cambridge and extending dual-tracking infrastructure towards Newmarket – both of these are essential to enabling improved onward connections to communities in the East beyond Cambridge, and were key asks within our East West Rail Eastern Section economic case published earlier this year. The full dual-tracking of the route through Newmarket and station improvements are essential if wider economic benefits of EWR are to be enabled.

“We are keen to see the detail of these proposals and note that East Cambridge station will be dependent on third party funding. We will continue engaging constructively with both the East West Rail Partnership of local authorities and East West Rail Company, to ensure the proposals deliver as much as possible to enable rail connection improvements to the East.”
